Paddock construction with HoofGrid

The first comprehensive article on the construction of horse paddocks and exercise areas! For the first time, you are now able to follow an illustrated, step-by-step installation guide. As an example, we have chosen an area of approximately 1160 sq. yd, that will be divided into individual paddocks after the HoofGrid installation. The following overview shows the individual steps involved - from the construction of a sub-base to the finished area.
The existing exercise area beside the hall had previously been used as space where the animals were allowed to run about freely, weather permitting. While the ground was very firm during dry spells, it turned extremely soft and muddy when it rained.
One solution to this problem had been to cover the area with gravel and plain fleece-material, topped with an appropriately thick cover layer.
This was, however, not very practical because new sand and chips had to be added only one year later.

The paddock construction required a solution that was reasonably priced and would assure the long-term, convenient use of this area. According to first calculations, a traditional "low-cost" construction wouldhave required over 327 cubic yd. gravel for the base layer alone, with an additional 196.2 cubic yd. of sand for the 5.90" top layer. And upon completion of the paddock, it would again have been difficult to keep the 5.90" top layer in a good condition. After the third filling, the situation had become appalling. The gravel of the sub-base had mixed with the top layer. The area had turned into a mixture of rough rocks, bits of fleece, and sand. After only one day of rain, the entire area had turned into a giant mud puddle. Obviously, the paddock is inaccessible on such days.
